HIV / AIDS pandemic affects development in Africa

developAfrica

Africa disproportionately bears the burden of the HIV/AIDS pandemic.  Although only 11% of the world's population lives in Africa, roughly 67% of those living with HIV/AIDS are in Africa. In Africa, there were 22.4 million people living with HIV and 1.9 million new HIV infections in 2008.  An estimated 14 million children in Africa have been orphaned as a result of HIV/AIDS.
